She was born in Surrey's Parkside hospital as daughter of Lady Amelia Croft and the notorious archaeologist Lord Richard Croft, who's also the Earl of Abbingdon. She studied at the Abbingdon Girls School between age three and six, where it became quickly clear that she was an exceptionally gifted child.

Lara and her mother were flying over the Himalayas in the private jet of the family, when the lightning struck in the engines which caused a plane crash, where she and her mother were the only survivors. She has caused inadvertently a mysterious portal, when exploring a nearby temple. She is transported to the future after touching a sword in the temple. She noticed that her mother was vanished all of the sudden after she came back from the future. She lost her mother after she was strangely disappeared from the temple. She walked alone to Katmandu in order to escape of the horrors of the plane crash. She made a polite telephone call to her father to ask if it would be convenient for him to pick her up when she arrived in Katmandu in the nearest bar.
She received private tutoring from her father, who took her on some of his expeditions, after the loss of her mother. She rarely left her father's side when traveling around the world from one archaeological dig site to another. She gets standard education from private tutors, but it would probably be more accurate, to say that she was full time apprentice of her father during this period.

An other tragic loss in her life was, when her father was disappeared traceless in Cambodia when she was seventeen. The authorities searched extensive to her father while she finds human remains, but they could not be identified definitively. She could not directly inherit the Croft title, because the body of her father was not officially found. She was thrown into a bitter family feud about the control of the Abbingdon estates with her uncle Lord Errol Croft. She eventually won the legal battle and took possession of her inheritance, but at the cost of a deep rift in the Croft family, where her living relatives are estranged from her.

She's very serious about her job and travels around the world on expedition in order to locate archaeological findings. She's also quite reckless often with for example intentionally "forgetting" of safety equipment for mountain climbing. She does not like to kill anyone and is saddened by the loss of each human life, especially after killing Larson Conway her first human victim. She is much more willing to kill if she must defend herself and has even some vengeful tendencies. Her vulnerable side is that she's kind and compassionate is, but she's also stubborn, headstrong, determined and fearless. She's also extremely intelligent and level headed and she usually remains calm in the most dangerous situations.

Skills and Abilities

• Peak Physical Condition: She is in peak condition with strength, speed, acrobatic prowess, stamina, reflexes, metabolism and durability. Her condition is greater than athletes on olympic-level who also trained is in mountain climbing and gymnastics. She has learned all ancient meditation techniques of the Byzantine Era, which gives her an improved healing speed.
• Survival Instincts: Conrad Roth taught her how she can use survival instincts, which gives an advanced sense of awareness & heightened sense of hearing, smell & sight. Her survival instincts were further enhanced during her time in Siberia.
• Combat Skills: She's an exceptionally skilled martial artist and possesses a certain degree of hand-to-hand combat skills. She survives usually effortlessly the fight against multiple enemies as combatant. She's a very talented marksman and her main weapons are her dual pistols. She is very skilled in using shotguns, assault rifles, submachine guns, spear guns and is very deadly with her gymnastics and marksmanship.
• Guerrilla Warfare: Her most prominent skill is to hide herself in trees in order to attack opponents from above on a stealthy manner. She is able to eliminate all threats silently with her bow. 
• Superior Athleticism: She took gymnastics lessons when she was younger, with result that she is quite acrobatic with a good finesse. She scrambles on walls in order to reach higher levels and can use her scramble movements to attack enemies on their weak spots. She's a strong swimmer who can hold her breath for a decent amount of time.
